Government
VIP has extensive experience in working with public sector agencies, at the local, State and Federal level. Of all industries, this is the one where we see the most historical development of silo systems. Business Intelligence solutions provide the capability to span these silo systems and deliver information to make operations more effective.

BI initiatives allow public sector agencies to measure results and determine success. Effective measurement provides the capability to demonstrate they are proceeding intelligently, being efficient, and being effective in delivering services to a broad group of constituents. Government constituents include the public they provide services to, such as roads, licenses, and medical benefits; regulatory agencies that monitor the services provided; and taxpayers that want to know their money is well spent.

Here is how VIP helped three public sector agencies achieve their objectives.

State Employment Retirement System
VIP designed, developed and deployed a BI performance metrics system used to measure and monitor workload levels, resource capacity and productivity indicators. The performance metrics system included a Web-based activity collection application used to record daily time and activities, a data warehouse used as a central repository to extract, transform and load (ETL) data from source systems, and applied time and process performance reports published in an existing Cognos ReportNet business process information system. The solution presented the client with the data necessary to understand how IT costs and resources are distributed across the various lines of business, programs, processes, and IT functions. This enhanced visibility has led to better resource allocation.

County Government
VIP worked with the client to plan, design, build, test and deploy a series of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and scorecards to report against them. VIP helped to define the project methodology and assisted with the requirements definition process. The project provided BI dashboards that allowed people within the departments to view key metrics and drill into the detail. The county is in the process of rolling out over 20 different scorecards for each department to manage KPIs on a monthly basis. The project tools included Cognos as the BI tool and Informatica as the ETL tool. The project result is the ability for executives to understand at any point, how the County government as a whole is tracking against established targets such that timely corrective actions can be taken.

Federal Banking Agency
VIP worked with the client to plan, design, build, test and deploy a Web-based BI system to transform high volumes of electronic funds transfer data into useful information. By enabling efficient Web-based customer self-serve, the client is able to deliver important transaction information and analysis to its customers and partners faster, and at a lower cost than the legacy systems.



Healthcare
Healthcare Delivery Organizations face many challenges. Managing patient information, promoting organizational quality with increasing efficiency and complying with industry and government standards requires access to integrated data. Information, or, in its rawest form, data, is generated by multiple entities and stored in silo systems both internal and external to the care organization. To provide the highest possible level of care, and, at the same time, be responsive to cost and regulatory pressures, health care organizations need to leverage data into the full value of information to manage the institution.

Using Clinical Data Models, Business Intelligence systems can integrate the data and provide the ability to interpret and take action on the information. Metrics for measuring performance can be developed allowing the institution to accurately and meaningfully assess its performance against the metrics and use analytics tools to reveal the quantifiable action it can take to improve quality, cost and compliance. For this specialty retailer with over 500 stores, a new Point-Of-Sale Customer Master Data and Business Intelligence System that delivers customer data by the minute, enables merchandisers and sales staff to spot trends as they develop and to adjust purchasing decisions quickly.
