System Migration – SAP R/3 Solaris / Oracle migrated to HP-UX / Oracle
Summary Description
The Client had recently completed the purchase of another company. The Client’s existing standardized SAP platform was HP UNIX – HP-UX and the Oracle database. The acquired company was running on Sun Solaris Unix and Oracle. Further complicating matters were logistics due to geography: the purchased company was headquartered in Europe, while the Client's data center was in Ohio.
VIP was engaged to facilitate a comprehensive system migration that would accommodate the customer and minimize outage windows. We built a staging server running Solaris/Oracle in the Ohio datacenter, shipped backup tapes from Europe to Ohio, recovered the backup to the Solaris/Oracle environment, then brought the like environment up during a single weekend; thus moving the data to the target data center. Then we built the permanent HP-UX / Oracle environment. On the following weekend ,we migrated the database to the HP-UX / Oracle environment. We performed this engagement 100% remotely, using Practice resources, and saving them an estimated $20,000 in travel expenses.
