Project: BI 7.0 Technical Upgrade – both onsite and remote engagement
Summary Description
The Client's business units wanted the dashboard display capabilities that were only available in the 7.0 version of BI. They had installed BW 3.5 system and were using traditional ABAP stack access via BEx but decided to upgrade rather than develop dated, potentially sub-standard functionality on the 3.5 version of BW, with its limited Java capabilities.
The Client engaged VIP to perform the upgrade and provide Basis expertise only when needed during the upgrade preparation and upgrade periods. We also provided post-upgrade java web application server configuration and skills transfer on Java administration to the Client's Basis staff. This was a win-win for both the customer and VIP. The Client got upgrade expertise when they needed it. Our Upgrade expert was able to work multiple projects during this time.
The Client was very pleased with the expertise we provided as well as the flexibility in our delivery model. The Sandbox and Production upgrades were performed onsite. The DEV and QA systems were upgraded remotely. The customer realized savings both in a 50% reduction in travel-related expenses and additional savings since they only paid for our resource when he was required to upgrade the system and provide the additional skills transfer they requested.
As projected, the project completed on time and on budget. We left them with a properly architected BI 7.0 environment.
