VIP Announces Winners of 2011 Women in Technology Scholarship (WITS) Program

FOLSOM, Calif. – July 11, 2011– Visionary Integration Professionals, LLC (VIP) announced the winners of the fourth annual Women in Technology Scholarship (WITS) Program today. What began in 2008 in only a few select cities has expanded to a nationwide scholarship supporting women seeking a career in computer science and information technology.

VIP has chosen eight women from the largest applicant pool yet to receive scholarship awards ranging from $1,000 - $2,500. The award monies will go towards tuition to an accredited US college or university.

“It’s exhilarating to see a continuous growth in the number of applications we are receiving from year to year,” said Leah Hagans, a WITS Committee Co-Chair. “We look forward to keeping the numbers rising.”

Award winners were chosen after the WITS committee reviewed each applicant’s academic performance, involvement in community service, extracurricular activities and their response to an essay question. For the essay portion of the application, the students were asked to define an IT related problem in their community and recommend a thoughtful solution that is likely to have an impact on the problem.

“Each year we see a number of candidates that are truly impressive. I am confident that the 2011 winners will make a positive impact to the IT world in the near future.” said Cynthia Webster, a WITS Committee Co-Chair.

Congratulations to the following 2011 winners who truly deserve this recognition for an outstanding commitment to their education and communities:

  • Suzanna Conrad – University of Illinois
  • Chanelle Baker – Francis Marion University
  • Ellen Davis – University of Kentucky
  • Caroline Suen – Stanford University
  • Deidre Moxley – University of Akron
