White Paper Release- Selenium vs. HP QTP: The Hidden Costs of Open-Source
VIP shows you why “free” may not mean cheaper when it comes to functional test automation tools...
Industry experts and VIP managers Joe Ford and Brad Davidowitz have written a paper comparing the market-leading vendor tool in functional test automation, HP QuickTest Professional (QTP), with a popular free and open-source solution, Selenium. They compare the efforts involved in first-time implementations of the two solutions including: ease of installation/setup, effort to develop, maintainability, compatibility, and support for existing/emerging technologies. Their hard and soft cost conclusions are based on careful analysis of the relative efforts involved. This paper is intended to educate the reader on the viability of Selenium as a functional test automation solution and examine the financial consequences of choosing that tool over QTP. Watch for Joe and Brad’s track session on this topic at the upcoming HP Discover conference in Las Vegas June 6-10, 2011.
