The Matrix Methodology™ – SAP BusinessObjects Integration

The Matrix Methodology™ (TMM) Methodology is VIP’s leading edge data warehouse and business intelligence design and implementation methodology. TMM is a synthesis of “Best of Breed” management and technology components that are modular, with “plug & play” components that allows for flexible approaches to unique client challenges. Because of its iterative framework, TMM promotes prototyping and feedback from clients along the way to allow for refinement of business needs and requirements. Ultimately, TMM is business value driven and reduces overall project risk by always focusing on the most important part of the application under development for the business.

In 2008, VIP completed the integration of SAP BusinessObjects templates and processes into the TMM framework. This is most evident in the templates that identify all necessary aspects of designing, developing, and deploying business value, utilizing BOBJ technology.

Center of Excellence – SAP BusinessObjects

Our BOBJ CoE integrates the processes, people, and technology of the organization. From a people perspective the BOBJ CoE helps to define a process where individuals are integrated into the BI process, including training, mentoring, and role requirements. From a process perspective, the BOBJ CoE addresses how to properly scope and plan for BOBJ projects, including understanding what is needed to properly design a Universe, for example. From a technology perspective, our BOBJ CoE establishes a framework for specific activitiesthat are required within the BOBJ environment, such as coding standards, best practices, design guides, etc.

The Center of Excellence provides value to the business, such as the following:

  • Process to mentor project BI teams
  • Definition of methodology and processes, standards and best practices
  • Establishes core technologies
  • Defines resource roles, qualifications, and training competency for each role
  • Mentors other teams during project implementations (solution, resources, technology, information, infrastructure)
  • Functions as project implementation resources when necessary

One main driving consideration for a BOBJ CoE is the need to establish the data warehouse environment as the “source of truth” for data. In establishing a CoE specific to BOBJ we help our clients more effectively and efficiently delivery this data in a meaningful, capable, accurate process.
